PHIL COLLINS SAYS HE'S RETIRING FROM TOURING AND RECORDING

Phil Collins said that he's gradually retiring from the music business.

Collins told timesonline.co.uk that last year's reunion tour with Genesis was his last, and that he has no plans to return to the recording studio. He explained that he'll continue to write songs because he "doesn't know how to stop writing."

Collins said that he'll be devoting time to his two young sons and his collection of memorabilia relating to the Battle of the Alamo, which Collins defended by saying, "It's not that unusual for a man of my age who grew up reading Davy Crockett."

  • Collins last solo studio album was 2002's Testify. Last year Genesis released a live album, called Live Over Europe 2007.
  • Collins says that despite over 25 years of solo success, he feels that there are plenty of things on his solo albums that he would change if he could: "There's loads of things that you would change. You know, you don't listen to them. Sometimes with some albums, you do them, and pretty much soon after you released them, you go out on the road. And straight away, they become different songs. And you sometimes never hear them unless you hear them on the radio when you're in the car. So, there's so many that you would change -- more that you'd change than you wouldn't, in fact."
  • On May 20th Collins and Genesis bandmates Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks will take part in a satellite Q&A session that will be beamed through to 20 movie theaters in Britain. The band will be discussing their upcoming three-disc DVD set called When In Rome 2007, which was filmed on July 14th in Rome, in front of an estimated 500,000 fans.
  • The DVD will feature such Genesis classics as "Mama," "Throwing It All Away," "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight," "Invisible Touch," "I Can't Dance," "The Carpet Crawlers," "Turn It On Again," "Land Of Confusion," "Afterglow," "Home By The Sea," "Follow You, Follow Me," "Firth Of Fifth," "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)," and others.
  • When In Rome 2007 comes with a 28-page booklet and features over five hours of content over the two concert discs and a documentary DVD. The package will be released on May 28th.

AMY WINEHOUSE ARRESTED AND RELEASED

Amy Winehouse was released from a London jail on Saturday (April 26th) after voluntarily turning herself in to police for questioning on Friday (April 25th), at which point she was arrested for alleged assault. No charges were filed, but she was cautioned for "common assault." It is policy in England to arrest a suspect before questioning them in connection to a possible crime. A man filed a report against the 24-year-old singer on Wednesday (April 23rd), claiming that Winehouse head-butted him in the early hours of the morning as he attempted to help her get into a cab. U.K. tabloid The Sun reported that Winehouse also punched a second man, publicly did drugs, and kissed a man who was not her incarcerated husband that same evening.

  • A police spokesman said that Winehouse was in "no fit state" to be interviewed when she arrived at the police station on Friday. Therefore she was held overnight until a doctor deemed her ready for questioning.
  • London's Sunday Times listed Winehouse on their annual Rich List published on Sunday (April 27th), valuing her fortune at $20 million.
  • Meanwhile, the British media reported on Friday that Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil mouthed "I love you" to a 21-year-old female friend who came to support him during a court hearing. Fielder-Civil's trial for assault and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice is set to begin on June 2nd. He has been in jail since late last year.

PRINCE: 'COACHELLA, I AM HERE'

Prince closed the Saturday (April 26th) night of the Coachella Festival in Indio, California, performing his hits and some covers for tens of thousands of fans. Organizers have been trying to get Prince for years, and reportedly shelled out a lot of money to book him for this year's show. According to Billboard.com, he played many of his hits, including "1999," "Little Red Corvette," "Let's Go Crazy" and "Purple Rain," among others. He teamed up with Morris Day on the song "Jungle Love" and singer/drummer Sheila E for "Glamorous Life." Prince also tossed in covers of Radiohead's "Creep" and the Beatles' "Come Together."

  • When he arrived on stage at around 11 p.m., Prince told the crowd, "Coachella, I am here." He also announced, "You are the coolest place on earth right now." After playing for about two hours, Prince said, "They're telling me we gotta go, but I can't leave." He added, "Coachella, did we have a good time at this party or what? You deserve it. From now on, this is Prince's house."
  • The three-day festival also included performances by Jack Johnson, Roger Waters, Death Cab for Cutie and others.
