BON JOVI TO PLAY CENTRAL PARK?

Another huge concert along the lines of Dave Matthews and Garth Brooks could be coming to New York’s Central Park. Who’s the mystery band? None other than Bon Jovi. Jon Bon Jovi recently spoke to SportsIllustrated.com about his Arena Football League team and the singer mentioned the show. He said, “We always end every tour at Giants Stadium, but we’re going to do Central Park this year. That hasn’t been announced yet, [but] there you go, we’re doing Central Park.” However, a Bon Jovi source has told Billboard.com that nothing has been approved and that many approvals must be obtained.

HOW WILL YOU REMEMBER JOHN MAYER?

How an artist will be remembered is something that plays strongly on his or her mind.  Will the act be rememberedas a great performer, a one-hit wonder or for something stupid that gets eaten up in the tabloids and has nothing to do with music?  The possibilities are almost endless.  John Mayer gave us his take on how he wants his fans to think back on him. “I just want to be remembered for being a guy who people felt like they knew, because maybe they did, once I gave it up to them.”  Fans in Copenhagen, Denmark will get to form an opinion of John Mayer on June 20th.

WILL SCOTT SERVE JAIL TIME IN THE NEXT 16 DAYS?

According to Entertainment Weekly, Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland will serve his eight-day jail sentence for DUI before the band heads out on their reunion tour. STP are set to play the Rock on the Range festival on May 17th, so Weiland now has 16 days to see it through. He also received four years’ probation, was fined two-thousand bucks and will have to complete an 18-month alcohol program.

R.E.M. PLAY THE OLDIES

According to Billboard.com, R.E.M. plan to play a lot of their older hits on their upcoming tour. Guitarist Peter Buck says, “[For] the last Dublin shows [in June and July 2007], we went back and learned a whole bunch of stuff from the early days we hadn't played in a long time, just to see where we came from, and it was pretty inspiring to play those.” They promise to still perform plenty off their new album, Accelerate. Peter also revealed the guys have already written material for their next album. R.E.M. play the annual Sasquatch music festival in Washington State on May 24th.

DEF LEPPARD ARE DIVERSE

Def Leppard released their 14th studio album Tuesday.  It’s called Songs from the Sparkle Lounge and boasts 11 tracks, but as guitarist Phil Collen explains, each song is very different.

“There are basically four writers in the band and everyone kind of brought their own things in really, so you’ve got quite a wide selection of the different kind of songs, but the one thing we decided was that (we were) gonna make a rock album, you know we didn’t really wanna sit up with ballads and stuff like that, so I think, I think it works.”  You can get the rock album Songs from the Sparkle Lounge now.

GUNS N’ ROSES NEARLY REUNITED

In 2004, Guns N’ Roses almost reformed, at least, that’s what former Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland claims.  The vocalist told Classic Rock magazine that soon after GN’R released their Greatest Hits compilation in 2004, “It almost happened.”  Weiland added, “The pens were ready to sign…but there was too much stuff being said.  But it was a close call.”  Weiland went on to say, “I think they should get Guns N’ Roses back together to tell you the truth.  I think that would be the greatest thing that they could do.  I think the world would be very happy.  If they could stop talking trash about Axl [Rose] in the press.  I would love to see that happen, as a Guns N’ Roses fan.  I’d pay to see it.”  Meanwhile, the Stone Temple Pilots frontman is waiting to spend a few days in jail for drunk driving.

STING WALKS A THIN LINE

Sting doesn’t just like singing, he has another very intriguing interest…and it’s not tantric sex.  The legendary vocalist is fascinated by tight rope walking.  TruTV caught up with Sting at the Tribeca Film Festival, where he was attending a screening of Man on Wire, a documentary about Philippe Petit.  In 1974, Petit walked from one Twin Tower to the other on a wire 110 stories off the ground.  Sting revealed that he is a huge fan of Petit and even has a wire strung across his garden in England.  The singer said, “Everything I know about wire walking, Philippe taught me.”  No word yet if Man on Wire has been picked up for a wide release.
